Clipmarks upload

So, it’s taken a lot longer than we hoped, but we’ve uploaded a bunch of new features to the site.  I suggest hitting your f5 key to refresh the site to make sure you see everything new.  Here’s an overview:

  1. You can now add anyone else’s public clipmark to your own library. When you add a clipmark, you can re-tag it (for yourself only) and can add it to any of your own collections. You’ll see that when you go to your Clipmark Library, there are radio buttons that allow you to display all clipmarks, just the ones you’ve clipped or just the ones you’ve added. This will also be the case when you visit someone else’s Exchange and view their clipmark library.
  2. Whenever you do a search in the Public Exchange, the left-side displays related tags and related clippers for whatever you’re searching for. This will allow you to more easily find      clipmarks about your favorite topics and meet people who clip things you’re interested in.
  3. Each clipmark you create or add can now be included in as many collections as you like.  Just like clipmarks can have multiple tags, this new feature allows people who use collections in addition to or instead of tags to assign each clipmark to as many collections as they choose.
  4. The Mine and Board sections have been combined into one section. By clicking on the “Mine” button in the header you’ll enter your personal Exchange. In your Exchange, you’ll have access to your Clipmark Library, tags, collections, favorite clippers and tags, as well as the clipmarks you’ve popped and commented on all in one place.
  5. We’ve added a “My Clippers” radio button at the top of the Public Exchange so you can easily see just the clipmarks that were posted by your favorite clippers without leaving the Public Exchange.
  6.  A couple of things related to moderating clipmarks and comments. Next to each username of a clipper or commenter (in the right side) you will see an “x” button. By clicking on this button you’ll be able to:
    1. Hide clipmarks posted by that user in the Public Exchange.
    2. Hide that user’s comments: This will cause all of the user’s comments to be auto-minimized for you. You will still see that they posted a comment and will have a link to view it, but by default each will be minimized. We obviously hope this isn’t used often, but we thought it would be helpful to provide a way for you to avoid comments by people who may bother or offend you.
  7. Many of us have often spoken of a desire to know when a new clipper comes on board. We decided to tackle this by flagging each person’s first public clipmark. So, when you see a red “First” icon next to a clipmark you know that it’s someone’s first time posting to the public. We figured this should give everyone an opportunity to greet new clippers and hopefully meet some interesting people.
  8. For comments that are over 500 characters in total, we will default to displaying the first 300 characters. You will see a “read more” link at the bottom that displays the entire comment. Hopefully this will make reading the conversations flow smoother for everyone.
  9. A number of user interface changes.
    1. Display of tags under each clipmark (right side)
    2. Placement of action buttons under each clipmark (right side)
    3. Under each clipmark you will see two arrows that allow you to toggle to the next and previous clipmark (right side).
    4. A URL to specific page you’re on is now displayed on the bottom of each set of results (middle column). You can type in that space to navigate to a different page on the site.
    5. Sorting options have been moved to the bottom (middle column)
    6. RSS and Cliproll buttons have been moved to the top (middle column)
    7. Radio buttons added to the top (middle column)
    8. Comments you’ve posted have a slightly different design than those posted by others, hopefully making them stand out when you’re looking for them.
    9. In the right side of any Exchange, usernames who are in your My Clippers list will be in green instead of blue. This will hopefully make it easier for you to spot your favorite clippers as they post clipmarks and/or comments.
    10. Whole bunch of little things that hopefully make the site less cluttered and key features more accessible.
  10. In the save clipmark window, we’ve added a “mature” setting at the bottom of the window that allows a clipper to flag their clip as being mature. Our automatic filter will still be in place (and can’t be overwritten), but this at least allows people to do the right thing and flag clips as mature that our filter misses. You’ll also notice that the save window has been redesigned with the title field now above the clip preview.
  11. There are several bug fixes that are included in this upload.  A specific one worth mentioning is for those of you who visit clipmarks using Internet Explorer.  Say goodbye to the last comment being bold bug. Thanks for putting up with that one!!
  12. For users who haven’t uploaded a profile, you’ll now see a smiley face instead of a person who resembles a toilet seat. Just could not look at that brown/orange weird silhouette image thing anymore :)
